The Cutlass was a short slashing sword, ideal for the close- quarters battles aboard great sailing men-of-war. Generally regarded as a pirate weapon, the cutlass was, in fact, issued to the Naval personnel of many countries, and then promptly stolen by pirates. This piece by Denix replicates French naval style of the correct time period. Excellent for re-creations. The blades of Denix swords are not the cheap, made in China blades that are razor sharp and can cut through the scabbard and be an injury danger, but are Spanish Steel, made in Spain and cast from a metal alloy that cannot be sharpened, making them safe for wielding without slicing injury.
